2 years ago, I developed chronic sciatica as a result of a bulging L5 S1 disc. The pain became almost constant, affecting my work, my ability to travel and my exercise in the gym. After months and months of standard physiotherapy and two epidural caudal injections it failed to fix the problem.I was advised that surgery was my next option but I was determined to avoid that, and I was lucky that my research into specialist treatment and fitness rehabilitation led me to Heather.

I couldn’t believe the enormous difference Heather made to my condition and so much faster than I would have thought possible!Through treatment and an rehabilitation programme, she rapidly got me to a point where I could enjoy entire pain-free days, I'd forgotten what those days were like. Heather also gave me the 'structural' foundations to get back into my exercise regime by writing me a gym programme. Amazing! She is truly a guru

I own a national award winning organic food shop which I started 27 years ago and have expanded the premises twice, 25 people are employed here. I came off my push bike in May 2012, I was going fast and didn’t have a helmet on and I somersaulted over the handle bars and landed on my head. I lost consciousness, broke 4 ribs and my collar bone. I had huge bruises on my hips and thighs that took 5 months to go and I suffered brain damage to my prefrontal cortex.

When I went back to work for after six months it was only for 4-5 hours a week, if that because it took me 15 minutes to think about one thing, my memory was severely affected. I would also sleep deeply for 3 and 6 hours a day. Slowly over the 4 years before I arrived at Heathers I was increasing my working hours up only upto 25 hours a week, sometimes it was a lot less. I couldn’t remember things that someone had told me an hour earlier.

My business really suffered for the 4 years before I came to see Heather. I was feeling so stressed and overwhelmed I was thinking of selling the business as I couldn’t carry on.The specialist told me that my life wouldn’t change and this was it. Since seeing Heather the improvements with my all my brain damage symptoms (severe fatigue and memory issues) have lead to immense profits in my business, they’ve soared to 10 times what they were, literally.

I am now able to research new products in depth. I am able to involve myself in multiple projects at the same time and keep on top of all of them and remember things, something that I never thought I would be able to do again, ever. Now I am working a full week, even working 6 days when I need to. I do feel tired occasionally, maybe once a week but a 15 or 20 minute rest means I am fully revived to carry on. I am hugely enjoying work again and back to be being creative, vibrant and able to make things happen. I think Heather is truly amazing! Who would have thought brain damage could be reversed with ART, I am so grateful to have found Heather, I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Not only is Heather a miracle worker, she’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. She’s funny as hell, full of life and positivity and constantly puts you at ease with her knowledge of the human body and confidence that she can treat anything you throw at her (and believe me, I’ve thrown her some doozies!).

I stumbled across her after 15yrs of constant back pain that no number of Physio’s, Osteo’s or Chiropractors could help me with. I was waking up every single morning at a pain level of about 8 out of 10, unable to stand up straight or walk without holding onto a wall for the first half hour or more of my day. Sitting for anything longer than 5-10mins would lock my back up and ‘throwing my back out’ was a monthly occurrence, leaving me in constant lumbar spasm for a week at a time.

After a couple of months of ART and prescribed rehabilitation exercises, my pain levels gradually dropped lower and lower to the point where I wake up pain free. My life is mine again and, best of all, having just been blessed with my first-born I can safely bend and lift and carry him without the constant worry that I’ll end up in a crumpled mess on the floor. I’ve gone 3yrs since my last episode and have Heather to thank for that. I’ve referred numerous friends to her too who have gone through years of pain and suffering on a range of ailments only to be cured within a couple sessions. She’s an absolute gem and I couldn’t recommend her highly enough.

I approached Heather following an injury where I prolapsed a disk at L5, S1. I had originally been to see a specialist who suggested that I went in for an operation. I had also been told by 2 osteopaths and a local physiotherapist I would most like need surgery. Not wanting to go down that route, I called Heather, as having met her at various courses and being aware of her outstanding work, I knew I needed to get in touch. Heather kindly came up to treat me to have my first session of treatment with her and almost immediately I had relief from pain that had been crippling me for 4 weeks. When she walked in I was limping and by the time she had finished I was walking normally.

Heather reassured me that I needed to start doing rehab work in the gym (contrary to the advice I'd been given by other therapists to avoid any exercise at all) and wrote me a specific 8 week rehab programme and monitored my weight training programme for the following 8-12 weeks. Very quickly my pain disappeared and my flexibility and strength started to come back and I was able to do day to day tasks that I took for granted. As a result of the work that Heather did, I went on to not only recovery fully but I have recently beaten my personal best in the front squat. Being able to lift heavy is the best part of my rehab, especially when the doctor said I would never squat again.

Heather played a huge part in my recovery process and I cannot thank her enough for her knowledge, support and skill.

Following an operation on my shoulder, I had constant low level pain and a contracting range of motion. I couldn't even manage to operate a computer mouse and had difficulty in cutting my own food and brushing my hair. Heather has been brilliant. After just a few sessions, the pain stopped and her subsequent efforts have improved my range of motion to nearly 100%. I owe my recovery to Heather's determination, ability, willingness to embrace new techniques and general professionalism.

Dr Arpan Mehta

For a long time, I had chronic problems with a restricted range of motion, in all directions, in my shoulders. This was having a severe impact on my life, and was getting worse. My work and leisure were starting to significantly suffer. I'd seen many regular physio's, sports physio's and personal trainers and had no results despite all of our maximum efforts. I stumbled across ART in a book I was reading, researched it and decided to see Heather, as she was really positive about what results I could achieve. After just 3 sessions, I'd noticed a huge improvement in my range of motion, and now I'm back to a great level. My work and recreational life are now great! Thanks Heather, I look forwards to continuing our work.

I recently developed movement-induced dizziness or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Any sudden movement of the head (usually head turning) broughton an acute attack without warning, even when I was lying down.

The doctor was not hopeful and muttered about medication which I would have to be on all the time. Heather managed by gentle treatment to make it considerably better after a couple of visits. I think in all I had about 5 treatments and it completely disappeared.

I had reoccurring lower back and knee problems for many years, and had seen a whole host of specialists (eg. chiropractors, physios, osteopaths, etc). The common theme was that they all only offered temporary relief and I would have to keep revisiting every few weeks. After just 1 session, Heather got to the root cause of the problem and did not just treat the symptoms.

A couple of days after the treatment I really began to feel the improvements and felt better than I had for years. I am a strong believer in ART treatment, would fully recommend Heather as a true professional and is the best practitioner in this field I have seen.

Heather's useful practical advise, friendly manor and expertise in applying Active Release Techniques are extremely re-assuring when you are feeling vulnerable and in pain. Heather's objective is not too keep you coming back but to equip you with exercises to build strength and prevent you from suffering in the future, what better service could you ask for?

Heather thanks for putting the life back into my step and my life.

After minor knee surgery in 2000 my knee was never quite the same, after a serious training session I would be either limping or would have to take sometime off for R and R. I saw countless rehab specialists, physiotherapists and acupuncture practitioners all of which would only offer temporary relief. After only two sessions with Heather my knee feels GREAT and I am training like I never had surgery!!

Heather is without a doubt the best injury specialist I've ever come across.

Lauren Dorko

I am a physical therapy student from the USA and had the opportunity to job shadow Heather for several weeks in 2009. Heather introduced me to ART and in my time with her, I was able to see the benefits of this type of technique. She also taught me how to manipulate muscles and what causes pain and soreness. She increased my knowledge of anatomy by continuously naming the muscles she was working on. Heather also taught me about cultural differences in the work field and how training to be a physical therapist in the UK is different than it is in the States. Since I have been back in the USA, I have expressed my views of the wonders of ART and have left many people wanting to learn more about it. I am immensely grateful for all Heather taught me, and my time with her is an experience I will never forget.

I first went to see Heather after I had strained my calf muscle whilst running. Admittedly, I was very sceptical about sports massage in general and couldn't quite believe that massaging the area would cure my pain. How wrong I was! After the very first session I noticed a huge difference - after three sessions, I was on the way to complete recovery. I was also pleased to be given therapy exercises to do at home which helped speed up my recovery time. Thankfully I am now injury free - and no longer sceptical about the power of sports massage!
